In "Death in Venice," typical motifs of decadence include the obsession with beauty and youth, the decay of the body and mind, and the pursuit of pleasure at the expense of morality. The protagonist, Gustav von Aschenbach, becomes fixated on the beauty of a young boy, Tadzio, which leads to his moral and physical decline. The setting of Venice, with its decaying grandeur and hedonistic atmosphere, also serves as a motif of decadence. Aschenbach's internal struggle with his desires and his eventual downfall exemplify the themes of decadence present in the novella. **
